Sarah Jackman
Hello! I'm Sarah. Welcome to my profile!
I'm a recent and proud graduate of the University of Utah with a degree in English/Creative Writing. I loved my college experience and was very active on campus, serving in many different capacities to make my school and community a better place. Before I started at Utah, I was an event florist and took some really fabulous floral design classes from Paula Pryke in London. I fell in love with London the second I stepped off the plane and it's had my heart ever since. Everyone should go there at least once. Make sure to try some bread pudding, then come back to the States and I'll give you my recipe which will probably taste better.
I've spent the 10 years since I graduated high school studying different things and learning as much as I can about various subjects. I took a turn in culinary school and love, love, love to cook. I bake when my stress level rises and feel the most at home in my kitchen. Throwing dinner parties is pure bliss, and I love to see people truly enjoy good food. Being a professional chef wasn't for me though, and writing has always been my first love.
Besides floristry, writing, and cooking, I am an AVID sports fan. Well, mostly college football and basketball. In the fall, you'll find me any given Saturday in front of the TV watching 3 different games, or in Rice-Eccles Stadium at the University of Utah cheering on the Utes. I follow college football closely and live and die by wins and losses from September to January. I follow college basketball too, but it's almost an afterthought compared to my love for football. I was even pictured on si.com as a "College Super Fan of the Week" in the 2008 season! One of the greatest moments of my life.
Another big part of my life at present is dialysis. I'm currently on the kidney transplant waiting list and have been on hemodialysis for the last 18 months. Kidney failure has been a part of my life for 8 years; I had a kidney transplant in 2003 that rejected in 2010. Learning to adjust first to being a transplant patient and then adjusting to being a dialysis patient has taught me anything is possible if you put your mind to. I never thought I could finish college on dialysis, but I proved myself wrong and graduated proudly in 2011, completing my senior year as a dialysis patient.
Other things I love: music, the beach, family, friends, organ donation (it saves lives!), Apple products, shoes, New York City, books, traveling, California, car rides in the autumn, Christmas lights, among other things. And I think everyone should take some time to watch Psych, glee, 30 Rock, Next Food Network Star, and Parks and Recreation. That's just my opinion, take it or leave it. But mostly take it. :)
